Boobs for Bourbon Street! is a creative, out-of-the-box (YES! I love cliches!) idea to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. And, it's great because in a world where there are a lot of people that pontificate on what they can or what should be done for the hurricane victims, here's a college kid that is actually doing something.
Irina Slutsky has a great interview on Justin Ross, the man that started the site to raise money. In the great world of blogs and, well, small worlds, there is a six degrees of separation between me and Irina, but that's neither here nor there.
The intention is pretty noble. Ross is a college student, wanted to do something for the evacuees and others, and let's be honest. Nothing says boobs like New Orleans and Mardi Gras - heck, isn't that what the whole beads thing is about?
As noted in the interview,
Justin: I'm not ashamed to say I'm not the wealthiest person on the planet. I'm a student up to my ears in debt, and this looked like a way that I could help out with the relief effort, while giving the same chance to others in my position—that is, giving them a way to help out, if they can't necessarily afford to donate cash they can donate pictures. I loved the idea, and saw that it had potential, and I wanted to be a part of it.
Amazingly, they have raised more than $20K for relief efforts, and according to the article, it's still going strong.
Kudos to Ross and Boobs for Bourbon Street.
